The mission of the Institute for the Study of Human Capabilities is to further the knowledge of practical applications of sensory and cognitive sciences, in the field of Human Factors or Human Engineering, at Indiana University. To fulfill this mission the faculty who are associated with the Institute conduct research on topics relevant to practical problems in industry, medicine, and national defense. The Institute also sponsors short- and long-term visits to the University by scientists who cooperate in teaching, research, or both. More than half of the faculty associated with the ISHC are members of the Department of Psychology, others are from the Department of Visual Sciences, Speech and Hearing, Sciences, Mathematics, Linguistics, Computer Science, Medical Science, and School of Library and Information Science.
